Okay, so why am I bothering to review
Movie Room? I nearly didn't, then I looked around inside
and decided there's enough niche material, and other
features, to give this site an airing.
Let's look at some stats:
- These guys have 3163 movies currently
available, and 678 DVD quality movies.
- There are 58 niches. There's
a full list with free samples here.
- 2000 porn stars. You can explore
the site by porn star name and image.
- Videos are available for download
to your hard drive at 2000kbps, 800kbps, 300kbps
download speeds.
- Flash videos encoded at 600kbps for
viewing on the site without downloading them.
- mp4s encoded at 300kbps (ipod/psp)
But the three key features of this site
that make it a recommend rather than
a yawn are:
1. The niche
porn:
We all wanna see new stuff - and not just the same stars in new movies either.
There are sufficient movies on this site from Europe and other parts of the
world that make this site interesting.
2. Targeted thumbs:
What's that? It means they show you enough screen-shots of the movie for you
to tell it's worth downloading. Let's face it, even at cable speeds it's
gonna take several minutes to download the high quality stuff. But we want
to know it's worth the wait, don't we? So, targeted thumbs get the thumbs
up.
3. Custom Flash player:
This site lets you download videos to your hard drive.
This is NOT a video on demand site.
However, not everyone likes their HD
filled up with porn for their nearest and dearest to
stumble across. Fortunately, on Movie Room, you'll
find one of the simplest and neatest little video players
I've seen on a porn site.
The most important feature of
this player is that it lets surfers
jump to any point in the movie instantly. Good for
the situation when you're just about to shoot your
load, and it would be good to go back and see that
sexy bit over again and ..... oops too late! Surprisingly
few movie players on sites allow you to jump around
like this.
The other advantage of this is that you can view
some of the juicy bits of the movie before you hit
the button to save it onto your PC.
Another feature I liked was that you
can explore pretty much the whole site, and take some
sample vids, without becoming a member. This means
you get a good idea of what you're buying into - and
it shows that the site owners are confident that you'll
like what you find once you sign up as a member. This
kind of openness is usually a good sign in a porn site.
Could things
be better?
Well, yes! This site is already quite adventurous in the range of content offered,
but let's hope they stray a little further from the high roads of corporate
porn. This site is, after all, fairly new so it's early days yet!
